“More Tax, Less Aid: Too Simple A Solution?”

Friday 28th June at 6.30pm

Methodist Tax Justice Network in Birmingham are running an open, public event entitled ‘More Tax, Less Aid: Too Simple A Solution?’ at 6:30pm on Friday June 28th, at Wragge & Co in Birmingham City Centre. The meeting will be chaired by Barbara Hayes, and the main speaker will be Revd Peggy Mulambya Kabonde of the United Church of Zambia. She will be speaking alongside John Cooper of Christian Aid and Gracewell Mwansa on the subject of whether the need for overseas aid would be eliminated if multinational companies paid their fair share of taxes in the countries where raw materials are extracted. The talks will be followed by a Q&A session.

You will have seen, with the recent news regarding Google and the government’s response, that tax justice is a hot topic. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the effects of irresponsible tax practices in countries such as Zambia and across the world, as well as how we can act as a voice for change.
